Urgent Plumbing & Gas works - via Winz

If you need urgent plumbing and/or gasfitting work done but are on a low income and have no spare funds saved you may be eligible for Winz (i.e., Work and Income NZ) assistance. This may be applicable whether you are currently a beneficiary or not. SEAL Plumbing & Gas Ltd are Winz preferred service providers. We can provide a free quote that could help you with your application.

One of the first questions is “Do I qualify for urgent assistance ?”. This is easily checked through a Winz portal (click here) online or by calling 0800 559 009. You do not have to be a beneficiary to apply. If you do qualify for Winz assistance then it will likely take the form of an advance that you will later have to repay. It could be a special needs grant, or an advanced payment of benefit, or a recoverable assistance payment.

Theory

It is a fundamental human right to live in safe, warm, sanitary conditions. Your rights are spelt out in the United Nations charter and incorporated in te Tiriti o Waitangi. If you suddenly have the need for plumbing or gas works (eg. by a cylinder failure or a burst pipe) you may qualify for urgent Winz assistance - it is worth checking.
